- Dr George O’Neil has developed the implant form in Australia, but they were refined by Dr Lance Gooberman in the United States.

-Australian implants use depot polymers for slow release.

Naltrexone Injections

Also known as Naltrexone depot injections, this form includes Naltrexone palmitate or Naltrexone in cottonseed oil. It is administered via intramuscular injection and offers protection from opioids for up to 28 days. Administration of the injection may be painful.

-Each vial typically contains multiple doses (usually five), though single-dose vials are increasingly available.

Naltrexone Tablets (Oral form)

Oral tablets are available under various brand names, including Revia, Naltrexone Hydrochloride, Antaxon, Nalorex, and Trixan. A single 50 mg tablet typically blocks opioid receptors for 24 hours.

In the UK, tablets can be prescribed by a GP. Availability may vary in other countries, such as Ireland or Canada.

Availability of Naltrexone forms varies by country:

In the UK, your GP may be willing to prescribe Naltrexone tablets. (Typically, there is a rigorous process to get them prescribed.)
In Ireland and Canada, it may not be available either covered by insurance.
