What Smart Heroin Detox Looks Like?

1. The patient lives in a comfortable apartment with a family member or by themselves avoiding the inconvenience of a hospital room and unwanted roommates.

2. Our doctor visits the patient every day, assesses the physical and emotional state, corrects the treatment regimen, and monitors the progress of detoxification and adjusts treatment when necessary. In addition, he remains in touch ready to help additionally, if necessary. 

3. The family supervisor (a sober adult relative or friend) gives the patient medications 4 times a day and helps with food and household issues.

4. After 2 days, the patient is already able to take short walks. 

Day after day increases distance and activity. Finally, they go on excursions, shopping, spa, or swimming pool visits.

5. After the detox, an opiate test takes place and the patient is prepared for Naltrexone implant fitting procedure of an opiate blocker for six months or a year. 

6. The next day after Naltrexone implantation, the patient can return home with our recommendations.

Outpatient heroin detoxification may not be recommended for patients with certain medical, psychiatric or social circumstances that require a higher level of supervision.

Patients who are unable to commit to the required level of cooperation during treatment, including following medical advice, maintaining contact with the treatment team and avoiding high-risk situations.

Individuals with severe physical or mental health conditions that could worsen during opioid withdrawal, such as significant heart failure, kidney failure, uncontrolled respiratory conditions, acute psychosis, severe depression with suicidal thoughts, or multiple complex medical conditions.

Patients who are not personally motivated to stop using opioids or who are entering treatment solely due to external pressure from family members, legal circumstances or other external factors.

Individuals who may struggle to follow the treatment plan due to difficulties with emotional regulation, impulsive behaviour or a lack of readiness to engage with the recovery process.
